Butternut Squash and Apple
1 lb. butternut squash, peeled, seeded, chopped
1 apple, peeled, cored, chopped
Put butternut squash in a steamer and cook for about 7 minutes. Add the apple to the steamer and continue to cook for abou10 minutes, or until the squash is tender. Blend to a smooth puree. For variety, replace the squash with pumpkin.

Country Apple Cake
3 cups self-rising flour
2 tsp. allspice
11/2 sticks butter
1 1/2 cups apples, peeled, cored, chopped
1 cup golden raisins
2/3 cup milk
1 cup light brown sugar
1 egg, beaten lightly
2 tbsp. honey
1/2 tbsp. granulated sugar
1. Preheat the oven to 325F.
2. Sift the flour and allspice into a bowl and rub into the butter using your fingertips.
3. Combine the apples, raisins, milk, and brown sugar and stir into the flour mix. Stir in the beaten egg.
4. Line an 8 in. round cake pan. Spoon the mix into the pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Remove, leave in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
5. Heat the honey in a small pan and brush it over the top of the cake, then sprinkle with the granulated sugar. Store in an airtight container.
